I'm Julie, the founder and owner of Inglenook Tile Design LLC, where we specialize in handcrafted thin brick tiles inspired by American history and architecture. My passion for antique homes and historic materials runs deep—I majored in ancient history in college, and everything old speaks to me.
In my thirties, I restored an 18th-century woolen mill here in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, which I still call home. As part of that restoration, I started making my own thin bricks, which became the foundation for what is now Inglenook Tile Design. My partner, a lifelong antique dealer, shares my appreciation for the character and craftsmanship of old buildings. These bricks—and the places they come from—carry stories worth preserving.
One of the most striking patterns we offer is inspired by antique bricks originally made by the Nelsonville Brick Company in Nelsonville, Ohio. Produced from 1877 through 1937, these historic bricks were once used in sidewalks and outdoor spaces. A park in Nelsonville still features the original kilns. We created authentic reproduction brick tiles by making molds from these original antique pieces, allowing you to bring historic charm to modern or period-style homes.
Nelsonville also designed a unique brick circle pattern, featuring variations like floral and star motifs. These rare bricks are prized by collectors and historic preservationists—and now, thanks to our molds, they are available as handmade decorative brick tiles through Inglenook Tile Design. I personally found about 50 original pieces at an auction, which inspired us to begin reproducing them.
We also offer reproductions of Coffeyville, Kansas brick sidewalk pavers, originally manufactured in the late 1800s and early 1900s. These bricks, known for their geometric pattern, were commonly used in streets, sidewalks, and railroad platforms. Because original Coffeyville bricks are difficult to source in large quantities, we recreated them as durable thin brick tiles from salvaged originals. They are subtle enough to be used indoors, yet sturdy enough for outdoor applications.
