Product Resources (This page is still a work in progress)
These are some of the great products and companies that we recommend.
VisionCorp(formerly SABVI - Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision-impaired) is located in Lancaster, PA, with branches in Somerset, Lebanon and Philadelphia. The mission of VisionCorpsis to serve the blind and vision-impaired community with employment, pre-school for blind children, and many other services. Inglenook Tile Design is partnered with VisionCorps, and Independence Industries, which provides jobs for the blind and vision-impaired community.
Schluter Ditra: Schluter makes an underlayment material, called Ditra, which is very thin. It can also be used with radiant heat. Many of our customers have a limited thickness to work with when they lay tiles, so that the tiles are level with other existing floors, or so that the floor does not interfere with doors and cabinets. Our tiles provide the brick floor look, without the thickness of a full brick. Still, some of the traditional cement board underlayments can be too thick. Ditra is the perfect solution for this -- providing the firm substrate for tile, without bulk. See the video for installation techniques: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6FyWs2WZ1k
The Lime Works: This professional masonry restoration lime mortar is available in numerous historic colors. Some of the mixes even contain oyster shells. They offer a little kit for sale with a selection of mortar "pencils" that you can lay between your tiles, as you choose a color.
Prime Time Solutions: This web provider carries numerous products for installing and cleaning your floors. Most notably, they carry AquaMix products, which we like at Inglenook Tile. The Enrich N' Seal is a color-enhancing penetrating sealer that we often recommend -- and it is not available everywhere. Primetimesolutions.com carries this in different sizes, at a very good price.
Laticrete: Laticrete makes a variety of non-sagging thin set mortar mixes. We often recommend their Multimax 255 for ceilings, since it holds the tiles up there as it dries. See the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWlwXvhFt-I for more information.
AquaMix: AquaMix makes many products for sealing and cleaning your tiles. Our favorite is the Enrich N' Seal, a color-enhancing penetrating sealer, for when you want protection without the shine. Enrich N' Seal will take up grout haze without a haze remover, and it will darken your tiles just a little bit. Be sure to follow the instructions, and not leave it puddle as it dries. Wipe it off immediately with an old towel or rag, as it has already sealed the tiles. If you use a gray grout, it will darken it considerably, so be aware of that as you choose your grout colors. It doesn't have the same effect on light buff or sand tones.
